Q THE QUESTION
As they say to many hip-hop is one culture that has saved many people lives, as hip-hop
continues to receive negativity in the media the culture has definitely done some positive in
the life of Philadelphia native Quinton Hatfield. Having been a fan of music and falling in love
with hip-hop at an early young age Quinton Hatfield never even knew the culture that he
adored would be part of his career. Growing up listening to hip-hop icons such as the Wu-
Tang Clan, Nas, Jay-Z, Redman, AZ and others these MC’s definitely had an influence in his
daily life. It’s kind of funny too as Quinton finally decided on a career in hip-hop in his senior
year of high school. “Man I didn’t know what I wanted to be or do after high school, it went
from Doctor, to Lawyer, to sports agent, anything you can think of”. Finally realizing hip-hop
was all he cared about during that time it was a no-brainer as to why not pursue a career in it.
“I always loved to write and I stayed with an issue of Vibe, The Source, and XXL as they are
my favorite magazines, it just came to a point where I was like I read and listen to this hip-hop
all day so why not make a career out of it and get paid”! When he decided on being a writer
from that point on the hustle and grind started to come in.

Starting off with being an online writer for the major hip-hop site www.hhnlive.com Quinton
Hatfield started off writing album reviews and interviewing some of the biggest names in the
industry. After a few months of writing for www.hhnlive.com Quinton Hatfield made a name
for himself in this industry and before you knew it began writing for two other major sites
which are www.hiphopdx.com and www.nobodysmiling.com. Being a writer in this industry
is a daily grind only if you want to be the best hip-hop journalist, but the kid loves what he do.
“This job can be time-consuming, but at the same time I get to talk to people some will never
meet in their lifetime and it has many benefits from party invitations, free music and much
more”, and yes the grind paid off as Mr. Hatfield interviewed everybody from Method Man,
Talib Kweli, Buffie the Body, The Game, Young Jeezy, MC Lyte, AZ, and much more to come.

As he started off being a writer for these three major sites Q began to learn about the music
business and in the summer of 2006 he and his man CEO/Hip-Hop artists Katrel Kelly AKA
Trel Mack had founded their own record label that goes by the name of Street Knowledge
Entertainment. The name lives up to Q perfectly as his younger brother Andre came up with
the name as their from the streets of the Germantown section in Philly and will apply his
knowledge from the streets to succeed in the music business. The three traits to describe
Quinton Hatfield are grind, hustle, and determination. With major plans to be on-air talent for a
major TV network like MTV or BET this will happen as Quinton says “I don’t wait for anything
to come to me in life, I come to it and Kevin Liles recent book Hip-hop guide to success gave
me this motivation”. Not only that he and Trel Mack also founded their own online newsletter
EAR 2 The Street and have plans of making it a major magazine for you to read. Yeah, that’s
Quinton Hatfield, Street Smarts/Hustler/Music Mogul and a hip-hop journalists like no other,
you feel me.
